Dr. James M. Ray is a fellowship trained and AAOS board-certified orthopedic surgeon in Southwest Florida, 35 years of practice as a community surgeon, author of over 20 peer reviewed journal articles. Dr. Ray specializes in trauma, arthroscopy, total joints, fractures, care of athletes, and sports-related injures. His interests include injuries to the shoulder, elbow, knee, hip, and pelvis. Dr. Ray was Assistant Professor of Orthopedics at the University of Kentucky where his academic duties included: trauma call, teaching residents in orthopedics and sports medicine, and research and publications. As the University of Kentucky's team physician, Dr. Ray traveled and provided sports medical coverage throughout Scandinavia, Austria, Hawaii, and Canada. He also was a member of a sports medicine contingent that visited West Germany, East Germany, and Russia. Throughout his training, he has a special interest in care for the injured athlete. As a general orthopedist, he is able to offer the entire spectrum of care and has a special focus on minimally invasive surgical techniques. Dr. Ray has extensive training in joint replacement and fracture care. He performs total hip, total knee, and shoulder replacements, as well as revision surgeries. Dr. Ray has experience in trauma though his affiliation with various hospitals and has recently published articles on acute pelvic fractures. Dr. Ray's immense experience and working knowledge of mechanism of injuries that influence management allows him to provide expert opinions, treatment recommendations, and an excellent testimony witness.
